Hoga Kusten Kaffe Rosteri

The red barn building with yellow doors and a HOGA KUSTEN KAFFE ROSTERI banner flag out front, coffee cup logo and phone number printed on the sign

Hoga Kusten Kaffe Rosteri roasts exclusively Ethiopian arabica on Fleminggatan in Kungsholmen, a small company started in 2014 by an engineer who traded a technical career for coffee. The shop moves its roastery north to Mannaminne on the High Coast for July and August each summer before returning to this Stockholm address the rest of the year.

Every bag traces back to a single Ethiopian region, Harrar, Yirgacheffe, Sidamo, Djimmah and Bonhamn among the names on the shelf, and the person behind the counter roasts in small batches and pours free tasting samples of whatever is currently in the hopper. It reads more like a specialist grocer than a sit down cafe, built around the beans rather than a long stay.
