Motors Coffee

A crowd gathered outside Motors Coffee on the corner of Rue des Halles, the gold MOTORS COFFEE sign above the dark storefront

Thomas Philips and Lola d'Harcourt left the fashion industry to open Motors in a small room between Les Halles and Rue de Rivoli, and the name is taken literally: exposed stone and red brick, corrugated iron, neon strips along the ceiling, the look of a bike workshop that happens to pull espresso. It is a multi roaster bar rather than a roastery, with a changing lineup of international micro roasters on the grinders, Friedhats, Coffee Collective, Rose from Zürich and Sev from New York among the names that have passed through.

The food has a following of its own. The Basque cheesecake, cardamom rolls and banana bread with nocciolata are the reason regulars keep coming back, and most things stay under fifteen euros. A quick, busy stop a few minutes from Châtelet, open from eight on weekdays.
