Café du Clown

The Café du Clown sign in gold lettering on the storefront glass, with the arched Marché Saint-Germain Alimentaire lettering reflected above it

The coffee sibling of Clown Bar, the natural wine bistro on Rue Amelot, opened on 9 June 2022 on the ground floor of the Marché Saint-Germain and run by Rikako Kobayashi, a former pastry chef at Maison, and David Benichou, once sommelier at Vivant, A.T and Brutos. That pedigree shows: a marble bar, bistro tables, vintage tableware, and a bean list drawn from roasters like Manhattan in Rotterdam and L'Arbre à Café, poured as espresso, V60, Chemex and iced coffee, with banana bread, cookies and madeleines from Kobayashi's side of the counter.

The Left Bank has very little serious coffee, and this is the best of it. Open every day from eight.
