Hakone Coffee

Black and white street view of the Hakone Coffee storefront on Storgata, with customers gathered at the entrance beneath the shop's sign

Hakone opened in Sentrum in 2024 after founder Camilla left a stable job to build a coffee concept around a simple idea, put great coffee first, always. The name and the light wood, low key interior borrow from Japan's kissaten coffee house tradition, filtered through a Norwegian sense of everyday folkelighet, and the result is built for speed without cutting corners on the cup. Beans move between the house Hakone Roastery and respected outside names like Swerl, Langøra and Koppi, roasted fresh on a small batch ROEST machine.

The menu leans playful without losing the coffee thread, pistachio and vanilla matcha lattes, a cherry cold brew in summer, oat milk options through a running collaboration with Oatly, plus pistachio croissants and cardamom buns to go with the cups. True to the to go framing there is not much room to sit and linger, most people are in and out with a cup in hand, and a loyalty stamp card makes every fifth coffee free for the regulars who keep coming back. What began as one small stop in Storgata has already grown into several locations across the city inside a single year.
