Origin Coffee

Origin Coffee's black shopfront on South College Street with ORIGIN and SPECIALITY COFFEE ROASTERS signage above large windows showing warm pendant lighting and a retail shelf of coffee bags inside

Tom Sobey started Origin back in 2004 in Helston, Cornwall, after a trip to Australia showed him a more progressive coffee culture than the one he grew up around in his father's coffee business. The company grew into a certified B Corp with its own roastery and a handful of shops across Cornwall and London, and in May 2024 it brought that same operation north to a South College Street address with a long history as a specialty coffee spot in the city.

The room favors oak furniture, boucle fabric, and reclaimed lighting over anything flashy, refinished original floorboards running under a rotating seasonal single origin menu. Vegan doughnuts and gluten free brownies sit in the case, a long bar seats people working on laptops, and the whole space stays open daily from eight to five.
