Bean Theory

The counter at Bean Theory in Newnham, with a hand lettered coffee menu board, exposed brick, a red accent stripe along the base of the counter and a view through large windows to outdoor seating by the Mill Pond

Ben Griggs roasts the coffee for Bean Theory at Waresley Park Estate, his family's farm outside Cambridge, under his own Hone label, having taught himself on a roaster he found secondhand. The Newnham Road room looks straight out over the Mill Pond and sits alongside his other estate projects, honey from his own bees and gin from the walled garden, both of which turn up on the shelves here too.

The space works equally well for a laptop morning or a stop on a walk along the river, with wheelchair access throughout, plenty of power sockets and both indoor and outdoor tables. Local names like Cambridge Mushrooms and Saragusta Spirits sit alongside the coffee on the shelves, and dogs are welcome to join at the outdoor tables.
